Are 2ga cables and heavy duty lugs really that important in comparison to the new and old controllers? I've heard a lot of great things about this controller.

There is allot of good information in this thread, but I don't see that the OP's question got answered.

Are 2AWG wires required or are they overkill?

I did go with 2AWG on my Precedent, but I am building a DS now, and haven't decided on 2 or 4 AWG.

Thank you,

2g cable is required for 500a controls.
4g is recommended for 400a controls

today I use 2g on everything because as JB has stated when it comes to amperage handling overkill is under rated

Why when you order a package from a builder such as D&D they specify a "minimum" of 4 gauge, and they group their motor together with a 500 amp controller and their 4 gauge wiring kit?

It seems 4 gauge is sufficent enough for the motor builders. Yet 2 gauge is obviously a little more efficient.

DC drive system engineers have updated their recommendations. D&D has not.
Obviously they believe 4g is good enough. It's impossible for us end users to know because the evidence needed is not readily available. So we error on the safe side because the cost is minimal to do so.
