Default G1 carb adjust

Whats a good way to adjust the carb on my G1? I raised it off the ground, but its hard to hold the accelerator steady and turn the air/fuel adj. screw. If I don't push hard enough on the pedal, it will be running off the starter. I know theres got to be a simple way, but I don't know it.

Are you having running issues? Was it running good before?

when I got the cart a couple years ago, it didnt have a carb, I couldn't pass up the cart for $80
anyway I bought a cheap amazon carb and installed it, and the engine fired right up. It runs fine, but I never really did a decent adjustment. I know it could be better.

The air/fuel screw is for low speed idle.

That's right, so you don't know how to answer my original question? A question with a question?

I was trying to understand your issue. Just saying "How do you adjust a carb?" is such a vague question, I was merely trying to gather more info so I could try to help you better.

First, set the idle screw about 1.5 turns out. This is your starting point.

The way you adjust the low speed circuit is to run an idle the engine and adjust the quality of the idle with the pilot screw. The pilot screw usually adjusts the amount of air allowed into the circuit. So you idle the engine as low as it will go without stalling. Then adjust the pilot screw one way or the other in 1/4 turn increments, waiting 10-20 seconds between adjustments. When you hear the engine speed up, then you're heading in the right direction. When you hear the engine bog down, that's the wrong way.

The idea is to get the "idle quality" tuned to your preference.

If the screw is toward the intake side of the carb, it's a pilot air screw and adjusts the amount of air allowed into the pilot circuit.

Ideally, your pilot air screw should be in the 1 turn to 3 turns out range.

More than 3 turns out, the pilot jet is too large, you need less fuel.

Less than 1 turn out, the pilot jet is too small, you need more fuel.

Now, if the screw is toward the rear of the carb, then it's a pilot fuel screw. All the adjustments are opposite. Turning the screw adjusts the amount of fuel allowed into the pilot circuit.

Well thanks for trying but my original question was : whats a good way to adjust the carb, because its hard to hold the accelerator and do the adjustment, I thought maybe jump out the micro switch on the pedal or maybe another way, I was asking for help. I didnt really need a lesson in basic carb adjustment. Thanks anyway.

Well since you know what you're doing you should be able to figure it out. But you asked (quote) "Whats a good way to adjust the carb on my G1?"

When I asked you qualifying questions so I could try and help, you shook me off.

When I posted the procedure for "adjusting the carb", you shake me off again.

And btw, when someone posts a smiley face and a thumbs up it means they are speaking in good spirits and likely joking.

So, my friend, have fun.
