Carryall 500 not running, 1520L-5550 Controller field current high
Hi
I have a Carryall 500 with a Curtis 1520L-5550 controller. This seems to be an OEM 1268 controller and I can't find a lot about the 1520L-5550 at all online. it's 48V 500A. The motor doesn't run. The solenoid clicks, and the motor twitches but won't turn. When the motor is connected directly to 12V or 24V worth of batteries with arm and field connected the motor runs with power. I've got 1314-4401 controller working on v3.12 (I haven't got v4 working as I don't have a genuine FTDI cable to reprogram). The software shows good input from the foot controller, switches etc but shows a high Field current even when the cart is still. (40A). This is only when the field is connected, when the field is open circuit it goes down to 2A. One idea is that the controller is throttling down the PWM and keeping it at 0% because of the high field current reading. The field current shows no output, and there is no measurable current at the field windings, although the reading shows 40A. Another suggestion is that the controller may be in some kind of series motor mode, and not driving the field outputs. I can't see anything in 1268 manual about being dual-use for series motor, and I can't see anything in the software to change it , but is it possible to be in the wrong mode? Someone has had a look at the controller but can't see how the field current is measured within the controller, if there is a faulty component. Any help very welcome , or am I best off just replacing this controller |

Did some quick looking and the 1520 is essentially a 1268 and yes it is a sepex controller. Is it possible the motor is a series?

I don’t believe so, it’s the club car 3.7HP originally fitted. At first I thought the motor might be at fault, and it was coked up as hell, but I cleaned and blew it out. I don’t think the brush cover was fitted on the motor properly and it may have been pulling in dirt and burning it up, but it doesn’t seem to have any shorts or open fields

That is a sepex motor. At this point I would think your controller is done..

Re: Carryall 500 not running, 1520L-5550 Controller field current high
Thanks, I’m just trying to see if I can find anything about how field current is measured in the 1268 to see if I can get this thing repaired rather than the expense of a new controller but not finding too much…

Re: Carryall 500 not running, 1520L-5550 Controller field current high
I’ve picked up a new controller, a 1268-5411 and I can’t tell if it can use the potentiometer throttle on the Carryall (it doesn’t seem to like it) or if I need to change the throttle somehow.
