Default G1 POS trouble

Hey all, my name is Mike and i'm new here. I have alot of experience with EZ-go's and very little with the yamahas but i am very mechanically inclined. What i have is my buddy bought a 1980 G1 i believe model # J10-011912. When he called me to look at it to help him get it running yesterday he had no idea what year it was, the throttle and choke cable is broke and the linkage rods are missing from the carb, no airbox lid or filter, oil tank was empty, 4 mismatched wheels and tires, etc. I say what did ya pay for it, he says 1000.00! I say DOH!!!! ok, you see what i'm working with, so i check the plug and gap and install a new one, remove canister hose and throw on a cone filter i just happen to have,(I build motorcycles) pour in some 32:1 premix with amsoil (i don't know if the oil injection works) I runthe choke with 1 finger, another on the throttle and low and behold she fires. Runs poorlyand acts like the timing is off, but it does run. I will probably bypass the governor but without a manual yet, can anyone tell me how to adjust the timing on this if there is one(is it like a dirtbike) and what a descent compression should be? sorry for the run on but i just wanted to slap him for not taking me with him, lol.

Yikes. Gotta love a basket case. Timing is adjusted by moving the stator plate under the flywheel. It should not need adjustment unless someone has already monkeyed with it. Compression should be 120 PSI. My guess at this point would be low compression due to age and no air filter. Good luck and keep us posted.
