Default Need help understanding IQ cart difference, controller etc.

We have an 04 DS..."04 AQ". It currently has a black 250A controller. I purchased a white 350a recently, hoping to get a little more tq from it. I was planning on having the motor rebuilt from plum quick as well. I hooked up the 350a controller recently to see of any improvement, it seemed to have more tq initially, but then had no speed in comparison. Not sure the speed code on the black 250 controller, or the 350, but the 250 is much faster. I called plum quick to see if I could get the motor now, and then send in the core to eliminate downtime, he advised me didnt have any IQ motors currently. Im looking for any guidance on the actual IQ system...is the motor different, or is it just the controller? Any input it appreciated, thank you

Matt.

It's my understanding that the white controllers are Excel controllers, which are not compatible with the IQ system. There is a Curtis 350 amp IQ controller out there that you can buy, or you can just get an Alltrax XCT.

The White Excel is better than the Gray Excel to adapt to an IQ harness.

You are probably getting around 9mph with no roll away brake.

The main issue is that IQ Black controller provided the negative to the speed sensor on pin #13.

The harness did not change but the White Controller does not provide negative on that pin.

The Solution is to cut the black/white wire going to pin #13 on the Controller 16-pin connector about 3 inches before the connector.

Tape the side of the wire going to the Controller.

Use a length of 16ga wire to connect the other side of the black/white wire directly to Controller B-.

Make sure you put the cart in Tow and disconnect the battery pack before cutting the wires.

awesome, thanks for the info. To clarify, im not splicing into B- on the 16 pin, connecting the black/white directly to the bus bar? With this setup, will i still be able to change the speed code? Lastly, is there an actual difference in motor being an IQ cart, or is IQ all controller, same motor?

You're just taking that black wire w/white stripe, cutting it from the 16 pin connector (leave a few inches on connector side), and connecting the long end (coming from main harness) to the B- of the controller. You'll need to splice a ring terminal on the end of the wire. Doing this will provide the negative for the speed sensor and the cart will run normally.

You'll still be able to install speed codes just fine.

As for the motor, I believe they're the same between IQ and Excel.
