8 6v batteries, how to make it a 36v pack.

So in other words. I would need to make it to so I can put the main pack back in series to charge and use a deep cycle 12v on the 2 in the bag well?

Too charge would I need a full 4 ga wire going to the batteries. or would a smaller 10 ga. jumper get the work done?

I would only hope to run this setup up for a year at the most. But this wouldn't really be an every weekend type cart.

This cart is mostly for when we goto camp grounds. I need lots of run time on this cart. When we hit ocean lakes we make several trips to the beach and back without being able to charge. Thats why I was thinking the 8 6v 48v setup would be best for this cart.

My go fast cart will have a lighter battery setup, but I won't need as much run time on it.

Use 4 ga wire on everything to access the amperage in these batts while driving.
P.S. oldngray, excuse me, as I said to Galloway, I was in a rush yesterday and didn't have time for long explanations. No excuse for rudeness, you are right. But .... on your own cart you are having trouble with the simplist of basic meter use and DC diagnostics. So please understand my frustration when you come in here and begin telling Galloway how to read the diagram incorrectly. Again I appologise if I was rude, that is a shortcoming

Hey this is an interesting post , Got here late , so help me out a little Galloway.

1. What you are trying to do is eventually upgrade the 36 Volt cart to 48 Volt ,
But for now U want to use 8 6 volt batteries,
But you want for now you only want the 8 6 volt batteries to produce 36 Volts ???

2. And you need new batteries and you can buy used 6 volt T 105's for $60
so U would have $480 dollars in the 8 used batteries, or $120 (just adding 2) ?

Please fill in the blanks so I can wrap my head around
this (Remember it's a little head ) .

They are new t 105's
They are seconds from the factory. I.E. when they went to color the plastic in the mold it didn't come out a solid color ect. The inside of the battery is a ok.

I hope to do the 48v upgrade within the next 6 to 8 mos. But I need new batts in the cart now. So I didn't want to buy 8 batteries and have two sitting around while the rest of the pack is getting used.

I got the idea from some guys that are running solar panels, they are charging a large 24 volt bank, with a mixture of 12v and 6v batteries.

the 10 ga. jumper i was talking about was to charge the 2 extra batteries in the bag well with a 12v deep cycle charger.

Man I wish I had a set of batteries to play with to test this with. I might go get some 9 v batteries to see if this will work. hahaha.

I would recomend swapping out the batts, instead of trying to use them in the string

adding these two in parallel will not give much extra range, your pack is only as good as the worse battery in the string.

so every week or so check the voltages on all the bats in the cart, find the lowest one and swap it out
in the mean time set the other 2 up in series up on a shelf with a 12 volt maintainer

so i got 4 AAA batteries out of the closet and some wire and starting testing things.

i taped to batteries together in parallel and two in series.

when i stack them with the meter on the top and bottom, I get 4.5v

so it does work. with the parallel in a series. I am off to find 4 more batteries to see if I can wire up a "cart" worth and see if the voltage works out.

So just thinking outside the box why not get 6 8 volt batteries now and wire 2 in parallel that will give U
40 Volts , just 2 over the charge level for 100% 6 6 volt.
Just go ahead and run them off the shelf then after first charge they will be at 36 Volts.

Since led acid batteries do not have a memory when U go 48 Volt the new charger will
bring them up to the new level ?

Sell old batteries fort a few $$ + $120(savings on 6 volt) and U should do OK ?
