Red face ezgo shift cable adjustment?

I searched for this but couldn't word it right? I came up empty after a few tries. Here's the problem........My cart shifts hard from F to R and vice-versa. If I rock the cart it shifts easy enough....I thought the cables stretched on this 2000 workhorse so I tightened them up a bit last night but no change? Could I have gone too far? I need some help.

p.s. I like my machined driven clutch by Dixie!!!

Scotty it might be time to replace the cables they are put into such a bind
from the factory that they kink, get rusty or dirt builds up in side, or all three
Just a thought!!!

That could be but, first I want to try to get them adjusted correctly. If that can't happen then it will be new cables and whatever else needs replacing for sure........

The way I set them up is with about 3/8"-1/2" of thread showing I dont
know if this is the correct measurement but it works for me!!!

Happy Motoring!!!

Are you using a shorter belt?
If so....
I've had this happen with a few carts when I put shorter belts on, (depends on the shape of the driven clutch) it take some time to break in but will get better

Yes Jon you hit the nail on ther head, maybe....... I am using the shorter 2 stoke belt and I just got my driven clutch back from being machined and reworked by Tom at Dixie. The clutch halves close more so it keeps more pressure on the belt at off. Is that what is happening? Should I go back to a stock belt? It is quite the nusiance.....on a hill you can get stuck where you can't shift to back down or whatever?

The adjustment I made to the cables was from about 3/8 to now 1/2" threads exposed beyond the nut.

I'd bet that's whats going on with it, It will get better after you use it a bunch and the belt breaks in. I guess you could stick a stock belt on it, with the sheaves machined down it'll act like it has a shorter belt cause it changes the pulley size from what it was stock.

I might have to live with it a little and see how better it gets cause I don't want to give up any of the hill climbing power I've got right now
She gps at 21 mph. It was 26 before the clutch work with the same belt. I don't mind giving up the 5 mph...26 is too fast in the rough dirt. I'll just see how much easier it gets and maybe fool with the adjustment a mite......Thanks for the help guys.....I post results at the end of the week.....

The belt is pretty much new isn't it? I was thinking that's what you had said.

You should run the stock belt with the machined clutch. That should pick up MPH also. Won't lose any low end either. Give her a try.
