Rollcage / Upper Brushguard
Hello all. I am looking for anyone who built your own cage and made a sketch or plans or anything. I am building my own and I have seen alot on here that I like but I just want a little more info on the subject. Any help is awesome. I am permanently disabled and use my cart as my only mode of transportation. I have a 1999 g-16. I have pics of it in the golf cart pics section. My problem is that living in Michigan I am being told that even though my handicap plates and placards make it legal for me to run a gas cart on the streets but I need a roll-cage of at least 1.5 in tubing. I live on just my social security so having an income of under $600.00 a month really puts a cap on what I can afford. I would buy a cage but Saving for one would take me two years. To bad there wasn't a way for some people to get sponsored and get parts for free or at a discount. Oh well. Anyway anything anyone has would really help me out. Thank you all and I have already learned so much from this site that I appreciate all I have learned or can learn.

Re: Rollcage / Upper Brushguard
KWH, I am in Michigan as well. Just out of curiosity who told you that you needed a cage with a minimum of 1.5 tubing? We build street legal carts on a regular basis. The stock bars and top have always passed inspection, which I see you already have on your cart. I am building a cage with back seat to put on my cart, but unfortunately it is for a Club Car not a Yamaha so it won't help much.

Re: Rollcage / Upper Brushguard
I live in a small town called Bellevue. We have less than 900 residents in the village limits. Well anyway the next town over is Olivet. There is a college there. The chief of Police said that because of all the carts on campus they are adopting new rules because there really isnt any laws for gas carts to be road legal.

Re: Rollcage / Upper Brushguard
I live in Alma, but the shop I work part time at is in Carson City. I don't have a bender, but the shop has a bender. I don't want to say that the chief of police is incorrect, but the State of Michigan does in fact have a set of required equiment and regulations to be followed in order to make a cart street legal. We have built hundereds of street legal carts and they are all fully liscensed to be on the road.

Re: Rollcage / Upper Brushguard
Yes they can. Probably 95% of the street legal carts we build are gas.

Re: Rollcage / Upper Brushguard
I am trying to find anything I can about the subject and I am having trouble finding anything. Do you know where I can find these rules? I have seatbelts front and back. The front are shoulder and lap belts. I have brake lights and turn signals. I have headlights. What else is there. Also how do you register and license one?

Re: Rollcage / Upper Brushguard
In Ariz. I started by calling MVD, asking them how to license a golf cart for the street.
Also, in a recent thread, Michigan requires high beam and low beam head lights, and need to be indicated as such on the dash. Read in "on road golf carts" |

Re: Rollcage / Upper Brushguard
where do I find an AS-1 windshield? I have a split tinted one on my cant now but I guess it needs to have a sticker or something saying AS-1 on it. Where do I get a 4'x4' piece?
