G1 Stalling at low speed
I just recently purchased a G1. I am having an issue with stalling at low speeds. It will run wide-open great but when I try to slow down and stay at a slower speed it intermittently stalls...kinda acts like it has some type of cut-off in the ignition system.
Thanks |

Re: G1 Stalling at low speed
Most of the time one of two things happens:
1. The carb is dirty/oily and it turns in the rubber boot to the cylinder. Take carb out and clean with carb spray, clean inside boot, replace carb straight up and down, it should not turn in rubber because the throttle pushes on it. 2. Some dimwit adjusted the throttle cable way up or screwed up the linkage trying in vain to make it go faster with the governor still working. You should be able to press the pedal and start the engine, and it should idle just faster than the starter, after the pedal moves about 1" at the top from when it starts, only then should the carb start to open and the cart will move. It should still be able to get full open throttle at carb with pedal down all the way. I don't think they have a rev limit, I ran a few of them fast as they would rev on stock tires down the road...a couple of them had cut heads, porting, advanced timing, clutching. That is a sled motor that ran 7K rpm in a sled all day, detuned for a golf cart. |

The problem is very persistant and only happens at a steady low RPM, never cuts out when at full throttle. I hold the rpm(low) steady, it cuts out, revs back to the same rpm, cuts out, revs back to same rpm, cuts out..... I heard some of the other golf carts at the fairgrounds this weekend do the same thing but the owners had no clue what it was.... |

Re: G1 Stalling at low speed
Usually the throttle is on some when the pedal switch runs the engine. That causes there to be no idle speed, its either on and 5mph or off. The pedal switch shuts the engine off when you let up on it. If its actually dying at idle, I guess I would clean the carb and set the idle and idle mix first. Could also be seals getting leaky on the crank.

Re: G1 Stalling at low speed
when mine does that, I am applying so little throttle
that the micro switch on the gas pedal is clicking on and off and I just picked up a free 1981 G-1 needs a piston and cylinder going to combine my two parts carts and build an off road machine pics will follow |

Re: G1 Stalling at low speed
I think that is where my problem is, the micro switch is cutting off and on....is there any way I can fix that?
