Re: headlight's fade in and out
I've used my lights once for a very short time and noticed that while driving they pulsated--from bright to brighter. Is that what yours do? I don't know if this is normal or not.

Re: headlight's fade in and out
Because the voltage increases as the engine RPM increases, lights get brighter from the voltage spike.
Somebody will come by and tell you what ever the duhicky is, that holds voltage to a constant is called! And where to install it. |

the voltage regulator? i think a amp relay will need to be installed.

Re: headlight's fade in and out
I can't think of what it is called, but it is something that holds voltage to a constant 12.? volts. Mine are connected to the battery side of the solenoid, but I wonder if you connect right to the battery itself, if the battery would buffer or absorb some of the spike?
Mine do get brighter with RPM. but I don't care, I don't want a bunch of electronics on mine, that may cause a failure of my lights to work when I'm out somewhere in the boonies. |

Re: headlight's fade in and out
How are you wiring the lights? I have a G16. I wired the light switch to a relay. Then from the relay direct to the battery and lights. Ground right to the battery terminal. No pulsating. Where you tap into the electrical effects how they will work. On my machine I have installed a power relay off the ignition switch. This relay sends power to a set of relays. So when I turn off the switch everything goes off. Including the back-up buzzer. If you plan to add more stuff, make yourself a power strip fused off the battery. Add a power ground strip next to it. Both wired direct to the battery terminals. Wire all your auxillary devices like radio, lights, horn ,etc. to it. I use relays to cut down on dash board switch and wire run size. Another note. If your battery has bad connections or is weak, your regulator will keep pulsating the voltage trying to compensate for voltage drop.

Re: headlight's fade in and out
I also have my G1 lights wired incorrectly. The faster I go the brighter they get, until the main fuse blows, then its dark and if you stop the kart wont restart till you replace the fuse.

Re: headlight's fade in and out
You have to wire lights to the battery on yamaha carts, the frame is not grounded and you will have problems if you don't most likely. If you have them grounded and wiring is working well, then check the charging circuit out. It is normal they get brighter with more rpm, but most only dim at low rpm and stay the same mid to high rpm. That is because the generator is not that big it can't make much power at low engine speed.
Note if you drive slow a lot maybe 5-15mph and you rpm are pretty low and it is all working right but still dims with low speeds, you can adjust that if you still have the stock secondary spring. Take it apart most rotate 120 degrees (1/3 turn to preload the spring), use a different hole for the spring to increase the rotation for more preload. The more you load it the closer to max rpm the engine will run at part throttle. It will burn more gas and make more noise running at high rpm all the time if you turn it way up, tried that, but it may cool better if you have heat issues. A half turn of spring should make a difference and run little higher rpm at part throttle, once it shifts, about 5mph and faster, it does not affect takeoff much. You can also cheat and stretch the spring longer it helps take off a little when I did it. |

Re: headlight's fade in and out
Yamaha fuses the ground. If you ground lights or any thing else to
the frame you will blow that main fuse. You can have any number of things wired and fused correctly and it all adds up in the frame and pops the main fuse. Hope I am clear how this is happening. Wire your accessories with their own ground to the battery. |
