Default Fe 290 to Fe 350 engine swap

Hi folks ,great forum, I have a 1997 CC with a Fe 290 that needs a rebuild. I also have a Fe 350 from another old cart that I could rebuild. My question is would the 350 give it a lot more power?I have heard that the 350 would not "bolt right in" . If not how much of a pain is it to put the 350 in.Thanks for any help and advice.

We have the 350 in a carryall at work and if I had one I would install it.I dont know if it bolts right in or not. I thought it was the same block as the fe290.

The fe 290 you have is clockwise rotation. If the fe 350 is older than 97 it is counter clockwise rotation. Might want to check and be sure that they are the same.

Well... I'll put it this way... The FE290 is 9.5 hp and, the FE350 is 11.5hp!
I don't know if they have the same mounting bolt pattern, (it's to my understanding they do!)
but it'd be worth the little bit of extra work... if needed!

Now... rmauto1 has a good point! in 97 they changed the rotation of the engines to Clockwise,
and there were only two years (95 and 96) where Club Car had a Counter Clockwise FE350, but, they're few, and far between!

One other thing to look for... There are two different FE350's! (besides the rotation)
One is a pedal start, and one is a key start,
If your FE350 is a key start engine, you may have to do some rewiring to get it to run!
Pedal start FE290 to pedal start FE350 w/clockwise rotation... should be a piece of cake!

The only differance I can think of when installing mine, there are 2 washers/spacers between the motor and the transaxle unit. There was a very small diff in thickness between the 2. I don't recall exactly but it was small. Everything else is same. You must use the carb, engine shrouds, and exhaust from the 350. I cant recall the generator bracket though.

I have to agree with 4vertical. I have a 01 carryall that had a blown 350 it it and a 290 out of a 97 ds. To get the carryall up and running the 290 was removed and installed without any mods except for a spacer(s) from theds 290 set up that I didn't need to install on the carryall. But it was a few years agoMaybe the other way around
