Jerky take offs with new belt and 200 rpm spring
Hi guys,
Just installed the 200 rpm spring and a new super duty belt from CPP. Since the install, my starts are really violent. As I rev up the motor, the clutch engages super fast and grabs the belt and away we go with a mighty jerk. After that it operates smoothly. Also, now that the engine idles while stopped I notice it takes more force to shift the transmission. I assume that is because even though the drive clutching is fully open, the belt still drags enough to put pressure on the driven clutch and force the tranny syncros to work hard. Is this bad?? Any thoughts? I'd love to be able to get rolling without launching the dog out of the utility bed!! Thanks Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |

Re: Jerky take offs with new belt and 200 rpm spring
could just need 10 hr or so to break it in? i just swapped to a kevlar gates belt and want my cart to launch like yours lol..
mine runs in neutral like yours even tho my belt is plenty loose....i dont have my shifter working yet so i start mine in gear and go riding.. when in gear it idles fine w/out moving the cart also. i have the opposite problem of yours lol. if i floor mine from take off the new comet drive clutch barries the belt in the driven clutch so deep"from a light spring" that it screws with my fast take off i think.. how about putting your lighter spring back in and give it a try? im fixing to put a spacer under my spring to make it stiffer |

Re: Jerky take offs with new belt and 200 rpm spring
Did it get any better with some break in time?
I was thinking about getting one of the +200 rpm springs, but I don't want it to get all hurky jerky on the take offs, I might spill my beer! |

Not much better so far. Maybe just a little. I really feel like part of it is my clutch. Seems that it is a little sticky and when it finally starts to close it goes does so to fast. I don't know. So far I'm living with it.

Re: Jerky take offs with new belt and 200 rpm spring
i feel i have this problem and i think its the spring in the driven clutch thats on the rear end..my drive is a new com et and when i smash the gas the engine power and clutch seem to slam the driven clutch deep into the belt..
seems like if it had a new spring in it that it would smoke the tires is this how you feel? maybe we are on to something i will be dogging it today up some hills later i ell the cart to either go,or blow baby |

Just rebuilt my drive clutch and WOW what a difference.
I had to pull it apart to replace the idler bearing because it was screeching at idle. I figured that while I was in there I'd replace the slider buttons as well, hnoping it would smooth out operation. I replaced the buttons and took emrery cloth to the surfaces they slide against. Then I rubbed some dry graphite lube on to all the friction areas. Now takeoffs are smooooooth. It made all the difference in the world. No more throwing the dog out the back of the bed every time we get going!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |

Re: Jerky take offs with new belt and 200 rpm spring
old thread but mines the exact same im thinking about taking the clutch off and going back to stock spring, I rebuilt the clutch at the same time maybe I did something wrong idk but I cant stand it, should I take it out or try and take it apart and lube something?
thanks im new to the golf cart world so go easy also the reason I rebuilt it was a terrible noise that I thought was the bearing first, nope so then I rebuilt clutch, nope now I think its driven clutch when it gets about halfway open the noise starts and wont stop till I let out the gas. any ideas? thanks in advance 2005 precedent |
