Loosing power, burning oil, rebuild or upgrade?
I finally have my '97 Carryall II running good but I'm experiencing low power going up hills and I'm also leaking/blowing/burning oil - not a lot but enough to have the low oil light come on about twice a week. I need to add about 2oz of oil each time.
The person who sold the car to me said it recently had a valve job and we all know that sellers don't lie. So the question is, what is the popular wisdom, am I better off having the engine rebuilt or is upgrading to a newer/bigger/stronger engine a better choice? I appreciate any and all comments. I'd bet others here are in the same boat. Thanks, Bill |

I'd perform a cylinder leak down test 1st to check for cyl/valve sealing & do a visual to see where the external leak(s) is.

If you find the motor needs rebuilt you may want to look into a clone swap. Its may be same or cheaper than rebuilding the old motor and get some more power in the process.
