My buddy and I just had the gear cluster out of his rear axle the other day and it didn't seem too complicated... But before you do that, how fast are you looking to go? Is your cart lifted or do you plan to lift it?

Why not ask here? If I don't know about something, I tend to ask around everywhere I possibly can to seek out the knowledge I want...

because it's rude to ask about something from a competing forum

"Competing" forum?

I'm a member on lots of different golf cart forums including the one mentioned earlier. Didn't realize there was a battle for ownership of ideas about golf cart parts and that mentioning that you saw something on another forum was a mild form of blasphemy...

sorry it's a pet peeve of mine

now back to his gear question

Ideally for your cart to achieve more speed, you want a gear ratio of 6:1 or 8:1
6 to 1 gears this will add about 12 to 16 mph to your cart
8 to 1 gear set will give you about 8 to 12 mph
Most newer carts feature a 10.45:1 gear ratio, which isn't bad, but if you want extra speed, changing it will make a difference.
The gears are located in the transaxle under the cart, between the motor and the drive axle.

Depending on how late in the year your 96 was built,
96 CC's could either have a counter clockwise, or a clockwise (97+) rotation!
and If I remember correctly, yours is counter clockwise, so, no... 97+ won't work!

I'm thinking the reason CTD was being "a bit" difficult is because, he was just showing his allegiance to BGW!
Yep, BU has a forum, but, BGW has far surpassed BU with in-depth technical advice, and friendly comrodery between it's members.
Plus... BU is not a BGW sponsor!
BGW's sponsors help keep the lights on here, and help make BGW the best golf car forum in the world!

That being said...
I didn't bother checking to see how much BU is asking for their gear sets,
But, I'm guessing they may be less expensive then some of the BGW sponsors.
Just so you know... Cart Parts Plus has the high speed gears you need!

http://www.cartpartsplus.com/high-sp...s-for-club-car

CPP's reputation, service, and over the phone technical help is one of thee best I, personally have ever had to deal with!
BU? ... not even close! http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-c...unlimited.html

It's your call!
