04 Precedent tops out at 8 mph
I am new to the forum and have found some great information to help troubleshoot my cart so thank you for that!
That being said I have a 2004 precedent IQ with a GE motor and the gen 1 pedal configuration. The cart seems to have plenty of torque and climbs hills fine but it tops out at 8 MPH. I have performed the speed sensor test and the cart beeps and begins breaking as it should. I went ahead a replaced the speed sensor just in case. Nothing changed. I then purchased a “high speed magnet” and installed that. Still no change. The cart has brand new batteries and the pack shows 51.7 volts after being off the charger for over 12 hours. Where should I look next? From what I have read it seems like I should check the MCOR or the solenoid but just want to get some of your thoughts. Thank you again for your help! Probably not the solenoid.
Somebody will be along soon who knows more about that Precedent than I do. to BGW! |

Re: 04 Precedent tops out at 8 mph
The two main things that cause speed to reduce to 8 mph. One is speed sensor. The other is welded contacts in solenoid. Your speed sensor seems ok.

Re: 04 Precedent tops out at 8 mph
You can easily test if the solenoid contacts are welded closed in this cart by testing for 48v on the solenoid big post with the battery main + connected to it. Then with the key off and the pedal up test for 48v on the other big terminal. If there is power on both big terminals without the key on and pedal down then the solenoid may be welded. Check further that there is not 48v between the 2 small terminals when the above conditions exist and the 2 big posts are hot.
If yes, replace the solenoid. |

Just tested and got 51.7 volts on both of the big terminals. Tested the small terminals and it read 00.0. Looks like it may be the solenoid! Any suggestions on where to get a replacement? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: 04 Precedent tops out at 8 mph
Put in Tow mode, Disconnect the battery pack negative and positive.
Remove both large cables from the solenoid and the pre-charge resistor if it has it. Test for continuity between the two large posts. If you have continuity, the solenoid is stuck in the closed position, and needs to be replaced. Check out ScottyBs Cartsunlimited.net for replacement solenoid. |
