EZ GO frame welding question
I have a 98 EZ GO frame that needs some help. It has rusted in the area where the front of the frame goes to the upright position. How is this reinforced? I am guessing it could not be built up on the outside of the frame, because it might interfere with the body. Maybe if someone could post pics that show how repaired. Any other ideas would be great as well. I have posted a pic of the area in need of help. Thanks.

Re: EZ GO frame welding question
maybe youd be better off buying a cart thats not so deteriorated, looks like more than just that part of the frame's rusted on the whole structure

Re: EZ GO frame welding question
Like MMT says cut out the bad and get new C channel to replace it..... You can but weld the channel and lay flat strap inside if you feel the need. The challenge is cutting back far enough to find good solid metal and getting everything clean enough to get good welds.

Re: EZ GO frame welding question
Cut out the bad, weld in new channel and than use flat metal to brace the weld on the inside as stated.

Re: EZ GO frame welding question
If done correctly how well does it hold up? Is it a temporary fix or should it be good for long term.

Re: EZ GO frame welding question
Done correctly it should be stronger than original.People weld and modify car and truck frames all the time so a cart should be no prob.

Re: EZ GO frame welding question
I would also say stronger. EZGO frames are weak IMO.

Re: EZ GO frame welding question
I fabricated a bolt-on bracket to attach a front bumper to my 88 and found the metal was difficult to drill so I am guessing the material they used was not mild steel. The frame was made from 1X2" rectangular tubing back then.

Re: EZ GO frame welding question
My frame a 1995 cracked and had rust in the same exact area, I cut out the channel steel they used to build that part of the frame and replaced it with box steel, then wrapped a piece of flat stock from the bottom of the box steel down to the main sides of the frame. It seems pretty strong now, a little more heavy but it took care of what seems to be a commonly weak area on the ezgo frame.
