Default EZGO TXT Gasoline in Oil

New to the site, and I appreciate the help on this.

I have a 2000 ish (was a refurbished cart i bought) TXT that seems to run a little sluggish.

I adjusted the valves to .004 per manual, checked all vacuum hoses, etc and decided to change the oil last night. About 2.5 Quarts came out of the ole Robbins 295CC engine (way more than it should hold, even with a three inch lift) and the oil wreaks of gas.

Any ideas on what would cause this? The cart runs/drives and I use it in a small community where I dont drive very long distances.

My next task is going to be to check the fuel pump which is just one year old and see if that is the cause, and also see if the suction hose from the crank case is also stinking of gas (indicating a possible bad diaphram in the fuel pump)

Could it be a bad float?, Bad Fuel Pump?, is the engine shot?

I dont have a compression testing tool :(

Thanks.

Ryan

Based on your description, I suspect a torn diaphragm in the fuel pump allowing fuel to drain into the crank case.

I thought the same, but last night I took the vacuum hose off the bottom of the fuel pump and it was dry as a bone after running around the neighborhood for a good 10 minutes.

I am thinking more and more it is a carb issue.

Any thoughts on buying one of the generic $ 35 carbs on ebay and just tossing that on there or am I asking for trouble?

Thanks

Dont know about ebay carbs, but your current carb is probably suffering from a bad needle and seat. As I have learned, the needle gets a groove worn into it and doesn't allow proper sealing therefore allowing fuel to run into the crankcase. The nasty ethanol garbage they call fuel these days only makes the problem worse.

What are the possible avenues for raw gas to enter the crankcase od a 295/350 engine?

On a 4 stroke engine, how would a bad needle valve or seat allow gas into the crankcase? I'm just trying to get my head around how that's possible. And please don't mis read that...... Im only asking for my own personal knowledge because unless there were bad rings, even if I poured gas thru the carb into the cylinder it shouldn't get into the oil. ( I wouldn't think anyway)

I've experienced this also where a bad needle valve allowed copious anounts of fuel to pour into the cylinder and seep past the rings (they have a gap as u know) into the crankcase

This happens a lot with older motorcycles but usually results in hydro-lock and bent connecting rods.....

Had it happen with an older Simplicity lawn tractor. Tried 3 different needles (has a brass seat) and they would only work once, and the problem would come back. Put in a fuel shutoff inline and haven't had the issue since (believe it or not, recommended by two local small engine shops)

Scotty's right. What happens is the needle gets a groove worn into it, and it would never seal correctly. Thus, the bowl would fill up with fuel and would in turn fill up the carb and anywhere else the carb has outlets / inlets to
