I haven't always strictly adhered to that rule, but it's a good one. Crap cables = crap performance, and that one will always be true. Yamaha made these "blob end" cables for a while, and the blob was always the hiding spot for problems, no matter how good you thought you cleaned them. Some folks refuse to buy a replacement for anything that's not currently on fire! (And I'll note that in the file). Not referring to the OP.
