Expecting more from 2005 ezgo series upgrade.

So here is what I started with. 2005 ezgo 36 volt series cart.

What I started with: 2 gauge wires, stock F&R switch, stock curtis controller, stock solenoid, and stock motor.

Upgraded to: Heavy duty F&R switch, 400 continuous solenoid, alltrax 4855, and the beast motor.

Programmed the controller to 5 throttle up and down, checked the turbo box, a leaner throttle response, ITS, 50 over volt and 20 under.

After upgrade installation batteries were about 73% and I took it for a quick spin and did notice a little difference it climbing out of a small ditch / bank. As I drove it down the road I believe its pretty close to the same as far as speed and it does slow when going up hills, that is one main thing I was wanting to improve along with torque. I pull a few jet skies around the yard and a 17' aluminum tracker style bass boat. Before upgrading it pulled jet skis great but you could really tell when you pulled the boat. Today after a full charge last night (38.2 volt) I took a quick spin with a passenger and did not notice any difference from initial test run. I still have not pulled anything with it.

So what do you pro's think? Am I expecting to much of a difference from this 36 volt system?

You probably won't notice much until you pull something and you need the torque. The Beast and the Alltrax 4855 should really improve your grunt power but won't do anything for your speed.

I'm not a pro but I can tell you this much: Bump up your voltage and you will notice the difference without a doubt! Pulling or not!

Since when is going from 36 to 72 called a "BUMP"?

If I were to make the increase to 48 volt now all I would need is to increase the pack and of coarse a charger right? Also the GE sticker on the motor says 8hp 1600rpm 36volt. Do they not normally also have the 48volt info on them?

You should call your supplier and ask if 48v is recommended for that motor before you increase voltage. Not all DC motors are .... I think that one is but you want to be sure.

You are correct in needing only batteries and a mode of charging to go to 48v. The solenoid can be wired to a 36v-40v tap in the pack. With a series motor the controlling factor to speed is voltage, a 36v motor can easily be run on 48v with a net increase of 30% increase in both speed and torque but like ScottyB said above, a call to the motor manufacturer would be wise.
