Motor upgraded but cart not any faster?

place that sold me the motor said that a cable connector post on my 36v motor had broken loose and was turning freely, could not be repaired and that i needed a new motor. therefore I have a new motor but by accident found out that it is a 48v not 36v like i expected when i got under the cart and took a look. thanks for all your responses, anyone got a suggestion on how to get this cart repair place to make it right. so far he's not too friendly since he got paid but i guess there's always small claims. thanks again

Broken connector on motor is repairable . . but the 48v motor replacement for a 36v motor is just wrong . . . tell him you want a new 36v motor or the old one back . . .

That's what I was gonna say...seems to me they made the mistake.

That place told a fib. You didn't NEED a new motor they wanted to SELL a new motor. Worst case with a broken terminal you'll either replace the field coils or brushes. Neither of which should cost more than say...$300 (labor included. I'm just guessing here. Unless of coarse it sets the whole cart on fire which is unlikely) Most of the time you just solder on a new end, if your lucky you can tighten it up. If it wasn't running it was probly broken, which is repairable. Pain in the rear but repairable.

Any COMPETENT motor shop can repair your old one. I would have gotten the old motor back even for scrap value. One of the more popular club car upgrades is to take a 36 volt motor, like yours, and put it in a 48 volt cart. Instant 20-25% increase in power for cheap.

I think the motor he's got would give him about 18 miles an hour with the 400 amp controller and 48 Volts.

…but that conversion is cheap
