Sometimes you can Shim the side-gears(the ones the axles slip thru)so that they are very tight to the opposed spiders.This will give a decent "Live-Axle"in most cases.It all depends on how tight you can get it shimmed.If you go the "Lincoln-Locker" route(welded),make sure you wedge some pieces of Grade-8 bolt between the teeth before welding.This will wedge everything,so you aren't just relying on the weld,since everything is heat-treated,and the welds won't hold like you would think(It doesn't matter who does it,or how good the machine is,Heat-Treated Steel and Weld don't play well together).Hope this helps.
