Smile Hesitation before cluth is engaging

Can someone tell me what would cause my 97 txt to hesitate before engaging after shifting from forward to reverse and back. Thanks.

You need a new drive belt.

Hi Ron,

Does it make a click noise and give a slight jerk just before it starts going forward again?

I don't hear a click but it does jerk when it catches and takes off.

mine did that, too. i got the shorter drive belt, and now no jerking. not saying you need the shorter belt, just that i switched mine to the shorter, so not sure if the regular would have done the same.

It depends on the width of the belt, as to wether a new one will fix the hesitation.

The belt should be no more narrow than 1-1/16".

Sometimes the weight pins become rusted and bind inside the drive clutch. They release with a sudden jerk, and sometimes a slight squeal.

Did it take away from the top end? What size and where did you get it?
