New owner of 98 txt with dcs will not start
We just got the cart last fall. e598 It ran fine for 4 weeks. Then left it fully charged for winter. It ran once this spring, but is not moving now. Battery are reading 36 v. No backup alarm, no noise at all.
I have a volt meter but have no skill in the electrical device world Can I find out what is wrong at replace or should I place my cart in the hands of a pro? |

Re: New owner of 98 txt with dcs will not start
1. How old are the batteries?
2. Does the solenoid click when you try to go? You can get a surface voltage reading of 36v even with one bad battery. Can you tape the meter to the posts where you get 36v and try to drive, tell us what the voltage drops to when you try to go. Remember: One wheel jacked up off the floor Key on Cart in gear Press the gas 3. Read the meter. Answer Questions 1-3 in your reply. Good Luck & welcome to BGW |

Hello Scott,
Thanks for posting reply. Re: New owner of 98 txt with dcs will not start 1. How old are the batteries? A:4/08 2. Does the solenoid click when you try to go? A: Something clicks inside the DCS Box. Is that where the solenoid is located? 3. Voltage drop A: did no jack up back wheel, no jack handy. Voltage did not change when I press the accelerator with cart in forward You can get a surface voltage reading of 36v even with one bad battery. Can you tape the meter to the posts where you get 36v and try to drive, tell us what the voltage drops to when you try to go. Re: New owner of 98 txt with dcs will not start
Solenoid may be bad, just because they click does not mean that are working.... You will have to remove the cover to access it.
Jack one wheel off the ground for safety! Solenoid basics and testing: A quick overview of the solenoid is : The solenoid is a HD on/off switch or Contactor the connection is made /broken between the 2 large terminals. The 2 small terminals are the activation circuit. typically one terminal will have a constant negative connection to the pack. When Positive power is applied to the second small terminal the contact is drawn up against the spring to make contact. When power from either side of the activation circuit is removed then contact is released and the spring pushes it away interrupting the circuit ...It doesn't matter which small terminal is neg or pos on the activation circuit so long as you have both.... \ When the solenoid is open (off) there is positive battery pack voltage on the battery side only.... when it clicks (closed/on) there is pos battery power on both large terminals... if not the solenoid is faulty |

Re: New owner of 98 txt with dcs will not start
I will test the solenoid next weekend and post results of voltage on both terminals.
Thanks |

Yes, a DCS cart does have a reed switch in the charger receptacle... check the small red wire coming from the receptacle to the F&R micro switches, it should have 36v positive

Re: New owner of 98 txt with dcs will not start
Update
With one wheel raised the cart ran this Saturday. Since this has happened before I waited until today (Sunday). This time nothing. Checked all batteries, and all were 6 volts or a little above 6 volts. Solenoid seemed ok. Used continuity check on volt meter and it changed from open (off) to closed (on) when the accelerator was pressed. Then removed and reattached connector block to DCS and back wheel started to spin then accelerator was pressed. However, back wheel is not working every time. Used continuity to checked reverse micro-switch and it seemed to be working. Terminals on DCS are aluminum and seem clean. Any advice? Last edited by Madmatt; 05-22-2011 at 01:52 PM.. Reason: Typo |
