The Alltrax NPX 4844 is non programmable but the manufacturer does not recommend it with a lift and large tires.
You should use the AXE4844 or even better, the one with the longer heatsink AXE4845.
From the Alltrax site:
These units are designed for OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) stock
replacement controllers for stock cars with stock motors only. With a peak
current rating they are not designed for lifted or high performance vehicles.

The Curtis 400a would work.
Our sponsor FSIP makes 480a models that have trim pots, I would contact them for their recommendations.

FSIP does not sell to the public. Nor do they make a 480 I know of?

But some of the site sponsors sell them and they can help you pick the controller that is right for your application.

It's a 500 amp model but it's actual maximum armature current is only 480 amps.
I was referring to FSIP FS Model # 51-30S500NH0S, if you have different information that you could post with the ratings, I'd be interested in looking at more info.

I understand they don't sell at a retail level and was not suggesting to buy from them, just get a recommendation.

Either I'm blind or an idiot (probably the latter) but I can't find ANYTHING you guys are talking about.

So I need a controller?

I was told locally that 400a is the minimum to go. I found one but now you guys are telling me that it will not work. Every "controller finder" that I go through says I need a controller AND a new motor.

Yes we go to the beach and drive ON the beach but hardly ever in the thick sand. We cart our two kids and me and the wifey. we have no hills, no woods...

Where heat is a problem I prefer to use the larger bodied 1205 footprint controllers from Alltrax. The larger heat sink aids in dissipating controller heat build up, resulting in improved performance and longer life!
Shoot me an email if you need help finding what you are looking for.
