2004 EZ-GO PSD with Freedom chip engine still braking
Hey guys,
I just joined this forum, and this is my first post, so bare with me. I have a 2004 EZ-GO PSD electric golf cart and am having the following issue. And when I say issue I mean I am not getting the results out of my golf cart that I want, not that it is something necessarily wrong with the configuration, I could just be misunderstanding what I need to do to get the effect I want. I have the red freedom chip plugged in and want the golf cart to "run loose" rather than to have any motor braking at all. As I understand from doing plenty of research (and I mean plenty), this configuration should let my golf cart run free and not brake at all. But, at around 18-20mph(not sure of the exact speed) the motor breaks and will not go any faster. I'm not sure what I need to do in order to get what I want, but a lot of help would be appreciated. Thanks, Chad Johnson |

Its what all your batteries are reading hooked together. Put a volt meter to the main + and the main - and see what it reads.
To be honest the chip can only do so much which isnt much. You will want more, trust me You neeed a controller or/and a motor. Its worth it if you plan on keeping the cart for a year or more. Someone will be along to get you running 20+ |

I am no where near the expert most of these guys are, but my understanding is the freedom chip still has engine braking. If I remember right it kicks in at 20-24 mph or something like that.

Your controller and freedom chip are running at their designed peak.
If you want more speed you will need to swap the controller and solenoid out with an Alltrax 400a unit and HD 200a solenoid. You can expect speeds up to 24mph with a combination package like this. |

I just bought and changed all 6 new batteries last weekend, so I assume this should be a proper reading? Is it okay that the batteries are that extra 2.6 volts? |

(I assume they have some sort of speed governor on them so that way the engine works harder to achieve the target speed?) I have been looking at better controllers online, but still do not quite understand what that will do. I am honestly happy with the speed of my golf cart (the more the merrier, though), I REALLY want to be able to climb a hill faster and have more....torque(I guess thats what it would be). I would be very inclined to do this upgrade if a reasonable price if it will give more hill climbing power, but not if its only gonna give me those few extra mph on flat land. |
