Really Confused about Intermittent NO GO problem
First of all my cart is an 05 PDS 36 volt, stock motor, stock controller.
Ok a few weeks ago my kids were riding the cart and it just stopped on them, and I had to tow it home. I proceeded to start checking wiring and connections and everything seemed fine but the solenoid would not click, therefore it wouldnt go. It was vacation time so I just left it behind, mostly disassembled. While I was on vacation, I stopped at a golf cart shop and started explaining the problem to guy at the parts counter and the tests I had done, He immediately said with 99% certainty that the controller was bad. I ask him was it not possible that it was the solenoid, and he said no but he would be glad to sell me one. So just for giggles I called my brother, who lives three houses down from me and has the exact same cart, and I ask him to go to my house and put his solenoid on my cart and see if it worked, he called back in less than an hour and said the red wire that was attached to my solenoid was almost broke at the ring connector and after he fixed that the cart worked fine. Since that took care of that problem I decided while I had the cart mostly apart that I would go ahead and install a lift kit and a wheel tire combo. All went well and the cart has performed flawlessly until this weekend. I loaded the cart on a trailer and took it a race track about an hour away and when I got there the cart wouldnt go again. Reverse beeper would sound but no solenoid activation. I went back to the red wire that my brother had fixed to find it still wasnt a real good connection, so I got out my soldering iron and fixed it right, but still NO GO. I called ezgo customer service and talked to the most helpful tech that I have ever spoken with, he had me test all the connection on the plugs on the board with ground hooked to battery neg and probing back of plugs with pos probe. His tests concluded that the wiring in the ITS was bad, broken , or corroded. Well I was at the track and really didnt have time to remove everything to get to ITS to check it so I just let it sit and hauled it back home last night. So I get up this morning to diagnose the wiring issue only to get on the cart and it works fine, so now Im really confused. It almost has to be a loose wire or bad connection that doesnt like riding on a trailer 90 miles up the road. The EZGO rep made his decision based on the fact that when I probed the black wire on the J4 terminal I was supposed to get .09 volts to 2.9 volts and I got 0 no matter where the pedal was. So my question for the Gurus is now that everything is working, how can I troubleshoot and what should I troubleshoot, has anyone else ever experienced anything like this? I will be upgrading to alltrax 400 soon so I would like to get this nipped in the bud. Sorry for the long winded post, but I thought Id try to give all the details. Thanks in advance. JB |

Re: Really Confused about Intermittent NO GO problem
sounds like the controller is going in to thermal shut down, from the controller over heating, the PDS carts do NOT like a lift and BIG tires with the stock controller, one of these times it will shut down and NOT work again, Need to up grade the controller with something like this, pkg # 808 look here

Did you buy the cart new or used? Has the floorboard of the cart ever been under water that you are aware of? Have you pulled the cover off the ITS box to check the condition wiring to the ITS? I agree with Rib about upgrading the controller but since the issues started before the lift, I would suspect there is a problem within the ITS box.

Re: Really Confused about Intermittent NO GO problem
I had one acted sorta like that. It had the ITS wires damaged under the cart. The ITS rarely goes bad. You may have moisture in the ITS box?

Im definitely going to upgrade to an altrax controller but this is definitely not thermal shut down, meaning I loaded it on the trailer hauled it 90 miles up the road and when I got there it wouldnt work, As far as checking wiring at ITS, will i need to trace wires all the way back to the controller, or is the problem normally right there around the ITS? thanks JB |

Re: Really Confused about Intermittent NO GO problem
A simple continuity test will tell the condition of the black & white wire.... Crawl under the cart and look for obvious damage to the harness running out of the peddle box to the controller.

Re: Really Confused about Intermittent NO GO problem
Ok I just check continuity to the best of my knowledge on the black and white wires and I get about 1.6 ohms on each, is that close to normal?
thanks JB |

Re: Really Confused about Intermittent NO GO problem
Personally I prefer the visual method.... as I said earlier, if even a little water has gotten into the ITS box (which it could easily do), you could have a corroded/intermittent connection issue. Have you put the cart in diagnostic mode at all?

I opened the ITS box and looks super clean and no water, all connection seem tight and and all connectors are clean. WHen I put it in diagnostic mode I get 2 beeps then nothing, This is with the high torque chip installed, do I need to remove the chip? thanks JB |
