Default EZGO Marathon Won't Turn Off...

I've recently purchased a 1991 Three-wheel 36v EZGO Marathon Electric. I've got it running but it won't turn off when I move the key to the off position or take it out. I'm worried this is draining my batteries and I would like to know how to fix this problem.

It also seems to only have one speed when I drive.

Much of the wiring on the cart is old so I'm going to replace some of them but I need to know what parts are not working so I can fix them first. I have a multi-meter but I'm not positive on how to use it so someone will have to coach me up as to what setting to have it on and where to put the wires.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone has a manual for this cart and/or charger that would also be very helpful.

-Jake

Welcome to BGW .... everything you need is here and on the web
Find the wiring diagrams for your cart in the stickies at the top of this section and search the internet for voltmeter using instructions if your meter didn't come with any?

I can't seem to find a manual in the stickies section that is for a cart older than 2001.

I've checked some of the wiring diagrams and I have the cart wired correctly and I checked the ignition switch and it is also working properly. What would prevent the cart from turning off then?

I guess if everything is wired properly the solenoid could be stuck open?
We really need to know what type of system you have, like PGGROVES said?

It has a solid-state speed controler not the older resistor type.

Can you check the solenoid to see if it closed all the time? It is open when the cart is off....
