Default Battery Questions

I know the forum has what looks like very technical information on batteries. A lot of that was way over my head.

In general, where is a good place to buy new batteries? Is going to you local golf cart dealer a good idea?

In doing Google searches, it looks like trojan batteries can cost over $1000 for 36v set.

That gives a newbie sticker shock.

What would be a alternative more budget brand and cost be? Basically, best bang for the buck? What about Costco, SAM's club, and others like that?

Just trying to educate myself. I know you get what you pay for, but it is also possible to over pay for name brands as well.

Thx

Do a Google search in your area for battery supply stores they will usally result in the lowest cost for quality and fresh batteries as they deal in bulk sales. Brands such as Trojan, Crown, US Battery are all top shelf brands that give the longest life.

Am I looking for any particular specification that would indicate one battery being better than the next? Can those specifications be fluff numbers?

Like with my mobile phone, you never get as many hours on a charge as the manufacturer indicates...

The higher the amp hour the larger capacity of the battery. Longer run times.

Amp hour capacity is VERY IMPORTANT. It's like cu. inches on an engine. The bigger the a.h. the higher the capacity. the motor eats amps so having alot of them is critical.
In a 6v I like 220 a.h.
In an 8v I want 190ah
Cheap batteries have less, less capacity also means the battery is taking a bigger hit each time it is used which can result in a shorter useful life.
Hope this helps.

If I have to replace a single battery...and I understand the cons of doing so...

If I replace it...and can't find the same battery, should I get one that has the same basic ratings such as AH ratings? Or get one that is a little better?
