New user and G1 problem
Hi all, I've just joined BGW, and am looking forward to any expertise and suggestions that I can get along the way. I've recently jumped into golf carts head first with a Yamaha G1 (pic 1). So, for a quick run-down on it... Originally my wife got her for taking to horse-shows to tool around on, but recently it has become more my toy. We bought her last year, and she ran pretty well, although she was always slow to get going w/ the gas engine. Lately she has gotten worse to the point that it won't even run unless fully choked. Because of this I've been going through and replacing any parts that seemed suspect. While I had the carb off the other day for cleaning, I noticed a broken hose which was attached to some sort of air box which also connects to the carb (pic 2) When I looked at the end of the hose, I noticed that the connector that attached it to the engine block was broken off inside, w/ only a small part still on the engine (pic 3). My first question is, what is the function of this hose (and the air box, or whatever it is...). Is it likely that this is the cause of the problems I'm having w/ her issues running? Also, is it possible to extract this from the block and replace it, or does any one have any other suggestions for dealing with this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I'm still on the learning curve for this. Thanks for any insights.

Welcome to BGW!!
Check here . http://www.tntgolfcar.com/yamparts.php?diagramid=629 Looks like the fitting is a press fit in the block, I would try to get a hold of it and pull it out and replace the fitting. This is most likely your running problem, that "box" is a vacuum control valve and the fuel pump requires vacuum to operate. Dave (smallblock450sl) or someone else will be able to shed more light on this for you. |

Re: New user and G1 problem
Welcome! In my opinion and experiance...you have options. You can try to replace the "outlet" and reinstall everything. Or you can somehow "plug" the crankcase outlet, IE: pull out the fitting, tap and plug or "JB" weld closed, then buy a J10 style "manifold" and eliminate all that "GARBAGE", that's what I do if I feel it's causing problems. Sometimes "engineers" love to "over engineer"! Have to say...Nice looking car and the seat desighn is very interesting. Good luck Dave

Re: New user and G1 problem
You know... Maybe I should have stayed away from this site... If I hadn't come here in the first place, I would probably still have something resembling a golf cart and space in my garage.... I couldn't take seeing all of your cool carts... so now I've got to try to make mine worthy. Here are some pics as of tonight, as well as the seat. Actually, the seat configuration sucks. the back seat is just a piece of plywood w/ a cushion. I'm going to be getting rid of that, and the current back rest is too high.
Of course, now my golf cart looks like this.... OMG.... |

Re: New user and G1 problem
We got it from a motorcycle shop. They had painted it up pretty nice, but didn't do much for it mechanically. I figure I've got until April to get it back together. I figure I might as well start from the ground up. She's pretty old, and there are quite a few parts that need attention and/or replacing. I'm pretty excited now, after seeing what you guys have done with yours! There still may be hope for our old girl.
