G2 will not start
A friend of mine gave me a 1989ish G2A (gas). I am new to this but it seems you folks are very knowledgeable. He told me the battery is new and I verified it reads about 12 V. When I push the peddle down all I hear is the solenoid clicking once. Every 5th try or so it might click several times but nothing else. Any advice on where to start would be most helpful.
Thanks |

Re: G2 will not start
A battery that shows 12V is almost "low-batt" as we term it. Charge the battery first. If it still fails to crank th eengine, replace the battery.
If you already have a new battery installed yet you get the same result , i.e. does not crank just the solenoid clicking, trace all your wiring and connections to the solenoid, pulsar coil (the two wires coming out of your engine on the opposite side of the primary clutch) and to the ignition coil. Check spark plug if still good (remove plug and insert it into the spark plug /wire-ignition coil). Push pedal and there should be whitish spark coming out of the plug tip when placed near a metal body part like the muffler). If plug is okay, check for fuel. Is the pump working? If yes, check the carb for leaks (between the carb, carb joint and gasket). A leaking carb and carb connection will result in continuous cranking but motor will not start. Lastly, check for compression. A fast way of doing this is to remove the spark plug, place one of your fingers in the spark plug hole then crank the engine. If you feel strong pressure coming out, you still have compression. |

Re: G2 will not start
OK. After charging the battery over night I got 13.9 on the meter. But as I drive the charge goes down significantly to 12ish. If I put the meter on while pushing on the gas I only get 12.4. Do I have an alternator problem?

Re: G2 will not start
I believe you have a bad battery. How old is it? You got it from one of your cars? Just kidding.

Re: G2 will not start
Have your battery load tested first, because that's free (hopefully)
I would lean toward a bad voltage regulator but you could have your starter/generator tested at a reputable/trusted Alternator shop before you buy anything. |

Re: G2 will not start
If you can use a volt meter, check out the "sticky" "so your Yami won't turn over". Good luck.
