Re: 1997 g16 leaking oil
I have not looked at one of those in a while but the G9 has a rocker cover on the top and if it leaks it runs down the fins. Problem is the fins then fill up with dirt and the engine runs hot. Have to take the shrouding off and mine I sprayed with brake cleaner then resealed the cover. You can't see the fins under there, but if you run in any dirt like I do it makes quite a mess.

Re: 1997 g16 leaking oil
i took off all the covers and cleaned all the mess out of there but its uphill from the valve cover where the oil seems to be coming from unless its being blown uphill

Re: 1997 g16 leaking oil
Does that have the air hose lines there to the airbox?

Re: 1997 g16 leaking oil
They can leak oil if they have a crack or poor fit/etc.
Should blow from the flywheel fan or from inside the shrouding to out. If the cover leaks it usually seeps out after its run, then fills with dirt the next time out. Only takes a few drops to make a big dirtball it seems. I run trails mine was nasty. |

mines leaking bad enough its puddling down by the muffler mount on the bottom and getting all over that side of the engine compartment

Re: 1997 g16 leaking oil
I'm gonna guess it's the oil feed line, feeding oil to the rocker galley (split rubber hose). Replace the rubber hoses.
I'm like Sho, I have a G8 so just guessing. |

Re: 1997 g16 leaking oil
The G9 has a line with a valve in it, a one way valve, iirc the pulses of the crank case push the oil up the line and to the rocker to supply them with oil. The airbox hose is to vent the crankcase or PVC system if you want to call it that, the blowby it has. If you overfill a G9 it will fill the airbox with oil. I would get a can of the degreaser for cars it works great, wash it all off and let dry. Then run it a little and look closely for the oil leak.

Re: 1997 g16 leaking oil
G16's don't have a oiler line like G2's thru G14's, just the breather hose to the airbox. Could be valve cover gasket, head gasket or even the case gasket.
