Ran engine low on oil
SO WHILE WERE WERE OUT FOR A RIDE A ROCK MUST HAVE GOTTEN KICKED UP AND HIT THE BOTTOM OF THE CART MOTOR ON THE PART NEXT TO THE OIL PLUG AND CRACKED IT AND I DIDNT RELIZE IT UNTIL THE CART STARTED MAKING A SQUILING NOISE AND I THOUGHT IT WAS ONE OF THE CLUTCHES. SO WE STOPPED TO CHECK THINGS AND FOUND OUT IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF OIL. SO WE TOOK IT HOME AND I CHANGED THE OIL AND IT STARTED BACK UP WITH NO PROBLEM BUT NOW WHEN YOU LET OFF THE THROTTLE IT SOUNDS LIKE A IM LETTING OFF A SILENT TURBO. I PUT MORE SYNTHETIC OIL BACK INTO IT, WOULD IT BE BETTER IF I PUT JUST REGULAR 30 WEIGHT INTO IT TO STOP THE NOISE?

Re: Ran engine low on oil
Same thing just happened to me. I ended up with a cracked connecting rod. Hope the same doesn't happen to you.

Re: Ran engine low on oil
The engine didnt set up but it was making noise. The more i run it the more the noise goes away. I have another engine that needs to be rebuilt so i will be starting that sooner than i was expecting to. What makes me upset is i just put this engine, thats in the g9 together this spring. Everytihing was brand new in it with a .50 over piston.

Re: Ran engine low on oil
That sucks. You could drop a 16hp clone in there instead, they are a lot of fun. It does take some work to plumb it and make linkages to the carb, but not bad to mount them all you need is the CPP adapter to use the stock clutch (& starter) which works fairly well on it. The mount was simple to weld up, check my thread in here on clone engine specs if interested. Also the clone does not hang the oil pan out the bottom, but that cart was lifted too.

Re: Ran engine low on oil
I need to stay with stock motor to be allowed to drive on the secondary streats in the small town that i live in in New York. i can do what i want to the inside of the stock block that i want to and thats why when i built the engine i went .50 over. i started last night taking an engine apart and im going to rebuild a new one from the crank out so i will feel confident about trail riding with it. i will run the other engine for now and swap it out when im done with this one. the old one still runs good it dosent smoke or anything it just has that whine ot it. my freinds cant hear it but i can and that bothers me. yes i will put the shield back on and put a steal plate over that other hole in the bottom instead of that plastic part.
