1995 club car ds starter/generator help!!!!
Just destroyed the 3rd starter/generator this month. I install it, drive it a couple miles around town, it makes a noise and the cart stops. I remove the access panel on back of golf cart and the look at the starter. The plastic plugs covering the access holes for the brushes are normally blown out and there's pieces of armature windings hanging out. The company I got the starter, generator from says that it sounds like low voltage going to battery. I checked battery and it had 12.4 volts before starting cart. Any ideas?????

Low voltage going to the battery ? Sounds like someone is trying to get out of a warranty issue. Your battery is showing 12.4 volts static and that's about right. With the cart running at moderate to high rpms that reading should be closer to 13.5 / 14.5 volts. That's what the generator should be putting back. It could be a bad voltage regulator, a bad ground or dirty contacts but those items will usually either A, cause your battery to slowly discharge due to low voltage coming back to it or B, cause your battery to fail due to excess voltage coming back in. Check the return volts as I mentioned above and let us know what your results are. Chris. |

Re: 1995 club car ds starter/generator help!!!!
cart had 12.5 volts at battery and 14.3 volts while running. I have to assume the voltage regulator was failing after it got hot. I replaced the voltage regulator and issue seems to be fixed
Thanks! |
