Default 1990 Marathon Project

My wife and I have just purchased our first golf cart. It is a 1990 EZGO Marathon with the 3 PG gas motor. The oil system is not hooked up, previous owner said to use 1 ounce oil to 1 gallon gas. We will be using this cart at our camper on the lake. I have already read and learned alot on this forum, plan on gaining some more knowledge about our cart. I will do my best to keep yall updated on our project. I have included pictures of our cart from the seller.

Default 1990 Marathon Project

Here is the current pictures. Removed trim. Roof. Windshield supports. Looks rough right now but we got it all sanded down. This group has been invaluable in this teardown process, thank you all for the help. Going to pound out some dents and use Bondo to fill some holes and other dents. I will keep y'all posted.

Looks like a fun project. I rebuilt a 3pg years ago as my first full rebuild project. 1oz to gallon (128:1) is the correct mixture for those engines. [emoji106]

This will be a fun read, keep the progress reports coming. I haven't worked on a 90 but always heard the 3pg had a slanted spark plug hole, yours doesn't look like it does to me in the pic. No biggy as long as it runs good, what color are you going with?

I also noticed the front of the roof looks lower than the rear, on earlier models the front is higher which I think looks stupid. I chopped 6" off the front and 3" off the rear on mine, wish I would've left the rear stock to give it the same look as yours. Take good care of the rubber trim too as I don't think it's available anymore

Here's an update. Painted main color blue. Herculiner on the floor, steering shaft, and steering wheel and roof. Roof supports silver. I'm replacing the rubber around the corners with fender flares. Added a flip down tinted window. Still have some more ti do. It's not perfect but it is still ours. Great husband and wife project. Having trouble uploading pictures right now

I've heard you need a minimum of 5 posts to post pictures, not sure on that so maybe post a few more times and try it again. We like pics in here

Nice project. My first one back in 2008’ish was a metal front Marathon. Completely rebuilt the engine and basically the entire cart by the time it was done. It smokes and smelled, but it was a ton of fun and my kids and nephews had a ball driving it around. I’d build another one if I get the chance. I love the shapes and metal body of the marathons.
