03 DS (pathway) no regen braking
Hello again people, from the UK....
I have a Turf2 Carryall which regen brakes as i lift the 'throttle'. Just picked up a 03 DS QP0399-250127 chassis number (bit weird, as that makes it a 2003 week 99 build.....) - when i picked this up, it had some appalling battery setup (two very small car batteries, and two large car batteries) crap wiring, dirty terminals blah blah. New Trojans installed, better wiring (cant find my crimp tool, but thats another story), bypassed the OBC (aftermarket 'smart' charger) as it wasnt let it charge (previous owner said it did work). Found the speed sensor plug unplugged at the motor - plugged back in. MCOR I think has had it, its jerky and doesnt move until 1/2 throttle or so. So - should this regen brake, and should it have the auto'brake' thing the Turf does (stops it rolling away, beep beep beep)? What could be the cause? Thanks Guy |

Re: 03 DS (pathway) no regen braking
Never heard of a QP serial prefix before, but It could be a remanufactured cart.
If it has a speed sensor on the motor it should have some Regen capability, but it is possible to disable that in the controller, it's also possible the speed sensor is bad, or the magnet on the motor is broken. No movement until half pedal and jerky operation could also be worn out brushes in the motor. On a cart that age if it has the original motor it would be a GE built motor with the grey housing, and those are known for having small brushes that are prone to wear. Worth it IMO to take the motor out and check everything out inside. |

Re: 03 DS (pathway) no regen braking
We cleaned the MCOR - using the drill-and-squirt technique - transformed it - perfect now. 14.5mph (GPS)
The cart knows its moving, as the beep-beep-beep happens when it is rolling away with no throttle. So - how is the regen disabled in the controller? Brakes are crap too - rear only (depsite the pathway having 4 brakes originally) - im pretty sure the shoes are worn out as the adjuster is almost at the end (a good 6 or 7" of adjuster thread showing) |

Re: 03 DS (pathway) no regen braking
There were a lot of different options for carts so it’s hard to say what it “should” have, but I would agree the Pathway carts would usually have four wheel brakes since they were usually set up to be LSV-street legal, and would normally run about 19mph.
If it did have front brakes it would have 4 cables, and two separate adjusters under the floor. The pedal bar would have two pull points about 4” apart. It’s possible someone removed the cables and brakes but it’s unlikely they would have replaced the whole pedal bar since those tend to be kind of a PITA to remove. If it doesn’t have two pull brackets on top then the cart likely only came with rear brakes to begin with. Speed and regen settings are adjustable in the controller but you need to use a Curtis programmer to adjust them. This is usually best done by a dealer or cart shop. Buying a programmer is often too expensive for a home DIYer. |

Settings in the controller.
Unless you have a Curtis scanner it will have to go to a shop or dealer to have the controller adjusted. |
