Another new guy screwing up his cart..Help!
Just bought a '98 club car 48 volt. Following somebody else's lead told me if I upgrade the cables it helps increase power without investing in a new controller. So having access to 1/0 welding cable I figure that ought to beef it up. I did all of the connecting batteries and the cable from the battery to the solenoid, although when I went to connect to the solendoid there was a spark. Now it wont move forward or reverse it act like it wants to move just no power. Did I short out the solenoid? Is there a fuse I can check? or did I short out the controller. Furthermore what should be disconeccted in order to make these upgrades without shorting something out?
Thanks in advance for any help! |

acts like it wants to move but no power, that symptom is usually a bad solenoid, is it possible you twisted a post while installing wires?

I dont believe I twisted a post but when I attached the last cable to the solenoid it sparked so it might of came in contact with the opposite post (negative side?) or wires. I will try a new solenoid, what should I disconnect first do I don't do anymore damage?

Does your car have a tow/run switch? If so simply put it in tow, if not, you shouldn't have had a spark unless you had keyswitch on, car in gear, and pedal depressed...
the reason i say solenoid is, there is a resistor across the solenoid that charges the controllers capacitor to make it start smoothly, if the solenoid goes out it will just bump once and not go.... |

Oh.... also no there is not a tow switch that I am aware of unless I am just not looking in the right spot! I don't believe the key was on or any of those other factors???? And yes I will be inquiring with the site sponsors for a new solenoid!

How big of an arc did you get? A little spark like a snap n pop, or was it more like a loud bang similar to a small firecracker?
