Series cart uncontrolled coasting
I have a stock 2005 txt series that goes downhill at ludicrous speed. It is so out of control you are forced to repeat, "Stay on target....stay on target...."
So I put brake pads on it and that helped. But still- There is no auto restriction on acceleration. What I don't know is if this normal and/or correctable? Is something disabled? Everybody else is a afraid to get behind the wheel. Will an after market controller enable the cart to brake using the motor like a pds? Many thanks. |

Re: Series cart uncontrolled coasting
Hello rmchair. Welcome to BGW. Do you have the brakes adjusted? What kind of hill are you talking about?

Re: Series cart uncontrolled coasting
Series motors do not have Regenerative braking, it's not compatible with the series design. But, if you keep speeding down that hill, you will be afforded the "opportunity" to install a new motor and Controller if you catch my drift. The motor will grenade, and take the controller with it.

Re: Series cart uncontrolled coasting
Thanks for the tip about the speed.
Im in a fairly hilly area, but not the mountains. Possibly one side of brakes isn't engaging or they just aren't great. Still I see some series controllers that at least imply motor braking is adjustable, so I'm wondering if that's really true. If not looks like I need to find another cart because it's going to get ruined or worse. |

Re: Series cart uncontrolled coasting
Fwiw-I've got 2001 series cart and there are a lot of hills in my neighborhood, some of which are fairly steep. Like get a good sweat going getting up them on your bike steep. Like I'd probably be doing close to 40 mph if I just let the cart go downhill steep. Even on a hill like that, you should be able to hold your cart at whatever speed you'd like. You must have an issue with your brakes.
CGtech is by far one of the most knowledgeable guys on this forum. If he's saying regenerative braking doesn't match with series carts, I'd definitely take it to the bank. Get back into those brakes and figure out what's wrong. No need to buy another cart unless you've got other reasons. Good luck. |

Re: Series cart uncontrolled coasting
Like Orangeman said, there's nothing wrong with the cart other than the brakes.
Is this cart new to you and you have had another with regen braking? |

Re: Series cart uncontrolled coasting
At this time, I am not aware of any series drive controller that has regen braking. However, scottyb has mentioned that Alltrax is doing R&D on a series drive controller that does, but it is probably a couple years or more down the road.
I agree that you have a brake issue. If your brakes are in good working order and adjusted properly, you ought to be able to lock up the rear tires. Adjusting the brakes on a EZGO cart is different than it was for automobiles with drum type brakes. Here is how to do it: Accelerate to 10MPH or more on a stretch of reasonably level pavement, apply brakes hard and release brakes just before cart comes to a standstill. Repeat until tires can be locked up. |

Re: Series cart uncontrolled coasting
That got it for the brakes. Thanks.
My neighbor has the pds cart and it's a lot better up and down big hills. Mine is bi-polar. Ah well. Thanks everyone for all the input. |
