Ezgo Lift kit prblems
so I got a 6inch ezgo lift last summer... and The tie road seem to be short when I put them on the new axle spindle. I ended up extending the tie road but now they are like full lenth extened?(not sure if that ok? Another thing is it seams like its alittle hard to turn to the left but when you turn right its easy! another thing is I got back leaft spring extensions so the cart was level.. Now those are crokked... When we flipped the rear axle leaf springs this guy made use shave off the pin that the leaf spring was held in place so now the leaf spring move when you turn.... Also in the front the leaf springs touch the tie roads when u hit a bump..??? It work great but I was wondering how to fix all this?
The golf cart is a 1996 Ezgo Medalist GAS. |

Show us some pics and we will try to help as much as possible.
Where did you buy your lift kit from? Some kits require a different tie rod. |

Re: Ezgo Lift kit prblems
I'll go thru each step separately,Hopefully i can get you the results you need.If you extended your tie-rods by unthreading them,is there at least a 1/2" of thread still inside the tube?If not,cut and extend the tube with a solid rod.Make sure the rod is 2" inside each half of the tube for strength and make sure it is properly welded.Extend the tube enough so that you can reset the tie-rod ends to about center of their thread. You said it turns easy one way, hard the other. Is the steering linkage parallel with the ground and also parallel with the axle?If the linkage is sloped uphill or closer to the axle on one side this will cause bind and uneven steering. What spindles and axle are you using?Stock-axle with blocks or lifted axle?In the rear,I don't know why you removed the Pin,but that locates the spring to keep it in place,no pin, axles moves. This would explain your shackels being crooked and the springs floating when you turn. You will have to disassemble the rear suspension, recenter the axle, and weld new pins on.The Tie-Rods hitting the springs sounds like they are on top of the spindles and too close to the spring,is this the stock location,or did you flip them over?Pics and info will help.Hope this helps.

We are very visual people (means we can't read). I'm sure with this group, once they see what you are talking about, your next problem will be to decide which solotion to choose.

Re: Ezgo Lift kit prblems
THe shackles are crooked I have extedned shackle duw to a medalist golf cart. I am going to weld another pin on there so there good. Actually the medalists front spindle tir tod hock where the bolt is it bent down tords the ground. I dont know if I should bend it back or replace it.. I do have mudding tires on it 22 inchers. I The tie rods are full lenth extended and barly have any thead left to unscrew. I Might try the idea i saw of welding on my own part on it kind of like a home made esxtension.. But where can I get longer tie rods for a 1996 Ezgo Medalists Gas? I love the golf cart and man does this thing have power for 9.5 HP It seems like it has 24hp. I cant find a hill I cant climb and those hills usally require qeight on the front so the cart does not flip... I had one other questiuons is mudding good for the engine I mean will it affect it at all or is it ok? I have an engie question also. When I drive the cart at a very very slow speed it sounds like metal grinding????\
Thanks! |

Re: Ezgo Lift kit prblems
Here is the way I do the back (use 1.5 x 1.5" square tubing cut 4" long for blocks) no need to cut the pins off the axle, or use longer shackles. Also did you use spindle arm extentions on the front?

Re: Ezgo Lift kit prblems
Yes I have the front sprindle extensions. I Did cut off the metal Pins so Im not sure if i need to weld like a brace or just another pin... The reason we cut them off is because the leaf springs did not have a hole for the pin to go through the other side.. Wierd but it is a Medalist Ezgo 1996 4 stroke.
