Re: Project BaggedXelem
Hmmm...interesting...looks like I'll be adding one of these.
Thanks for that I'm having a new issue now with the motor/cart. My cart gets up and goes no problem and top speed is MUCH faster than stock. BUt...when I fully press the throttle pedal down, the motor cuts out (like you let go of the pedal). It's only the last 1/4" of the throttle.......I can visually see the throttle switch and throttle body-thing, because i have no seat...and nothing stops moving. Any thing I should be checking? I'm stumped. Just want to be able to press the pedal all the way down :( |

Re: Project BaggedXelem
Sounds like the pot box is dirty or worn. The pot box is a rheostat that gives the controller information about pedal position. I don't remember if the Melex is
0 to 5 ohms or 5 ohms at the off position to 0 ohms full pedal. Pull the wires off of the pot box and using a digital ohm meter check for a smooth and gradual 0 to 5 ohm or 5-0 ohm sweep as you depress the pedal. Try spraying electrical contact cleaner into the pot box while moving the pedal. Barry |

7.56k ohm rating at full throttle 5k ohm rating at the sweet spot before the motor cuts out So....is it fixable Or do I just get a new one? |

Re: Project BaggedXelem
The controller is giving max output (or should be) at 5 ohms. You can adjust the linkage to not go beyond 5 ohms and avoid the problem area. I think the area beyond 5 ohms is intermittent and causing the controller to cut power. Curtis Instruments makes a pot box you can fabricate a mount and linkage to replace your current Melex pot box. But it still should only go 0 to 5 ohms. There are import pot boxes that are cheaper. Ck with BWG site sponsors.
Build looks great. You will need a link to keep the rear axle from moving side to side. |

Re: Project BaggedXelem
Hi, I'm new and loving your build. I wanted to address 1 thing. a triangulated 4 link rear suspension doesn't NEED a panhard bar. You're welcome to install it, but if you notice every picture posted showing panhard bars, none of them are a 4 link like yours. If you had a 2 link, you would need a panhard, but its not 100% needed for your setup, thats why you took the extra steps to weld the tabs on the top and bottom of the rearend.
Cart looks great, you're doing a good job. Last edited by Volksdraggin; 09-09-2012 at 08:34 PM.. Reason: I wrote going instead of doing |
