That's what I did with mine. I drilled and tapped several pieces of aluminum, and covered them with electrical tape.

Good idea, but on mine, I do not have a lower lip for the faceplate to rest against. The bottom of my faceplate will just fall in. I thinking of putting some sort of backing bar inside the hole, and screwed into the dash at each side. This would give me something to then screw the bottom of the faceplate into. All of this would be hidden by the faceplate, and then the carbon fiber dash overlay. The only thing I can think of to use for this "backing bar" is a wooden paint stirrer.

You could also get a piece of diamond plate and make your faceplate bigger, until you would have something to screw into?

Paint stick is too thin. It will split. You have plenty of room back there, put a 4 X 4 !! ok, ok, maybe a 1 X 2

Tried a thick tongue depressor; guess what? Yep, split like a paint stirrer would have! I even drilled pilot holes. I'm going to try to get a stiff piece of plastic and try again. None of this will show when I cover it with the new dash overlay. This one step has taken me more time than any thing else on this re-build! Keep the ideas coming! Thanks for your input.

Maybe a 1x4, gorilla glue, and tape in place until it dries. Your good to go after that.

If you are missing the corner just find a piece of tin, punch a hole in it, and use either small bolt or sheet metal screw to sandwich the 2 pieces on the dash. The plate out front and the piece of scrap sheet metal on the back...

I would go for something more solid like epoxy a piece of tin in behind the dash and drill a new hole where the old one use to be.
You would never know the patch was there from the user side.

Just make it oversized, like my current dash.
