I got new batts and Charger/Timer question for the masses
I'm gonna be cruising again!
that is all :-) update with charger question: The cart is a 90 marathon, the charger has a timer on it, the question is: will the charger still shut off automatically when needed at full charge even though there is "time" left on the timer? Last edited by TxPowderCoater; 05-21-2013 at 12:21 PM.. Reason: update for charger /timer question |

got em installed, it runs great! buzzed it around for a short bit and tossed it on the charger.
Charger question: mine is a 90 marathon, it has a timer on the charger, does it still shut off automatically when its needed even though there is "time" left on the timer? |

Charger... If its an older Total Charge the timer is elapsed time of charge, when you put it to start it tracks how long before the charger shuts off (up to 12hours) It then has to be reset by turning it off and then placing back on start for it to charge again. Hope that helps, especially coming from me, the stupid question king (Note my ID)

so how does it keep from overcharging the batteries. I noticed it was charging around 18 amps when first plugged in and as time passes it is charging less and less, its around 8 amps now (1 hour later, brand new 36v continental pack), so as they get charged I'm guessing it knows and it regulating itself, timer or not but I dont for fact. I do know its charging less as I expect it should as time passes and they get charged so it doesnt just hammer them with 18 amps the whole time. |

Thanks, its a green face and its working as it should I suspect. after 3 hours on new pack it read almost 2 amps or so, the cart has an analog gauge and it shows full but who knows how accurate it is. I'll check pack voltage with ohm meter in a bit.
guess we will wait and see if the charger stops its slight buzzing sound here shortly. |

Re: I got new batts and 4g wires! yeah!
I just checked pack voltage 40.6, guess we will let the green monster hum along and do the trickle charge thing. it shows approx. 2 amps now and humming along. started at 18-20 amps and kept ramping down as the charge went up I'd guess.
analog meter shows pegged but obviously if pack voltage should be 43+ and I'm at 40, ain't there yet... |

Re: I got new batts and 4g wires! yeah!
The meter on the cart WILL show above full charge while the charger is running, as the charger pushes the pack voltage up. It wouldn't charge at all otherwise. The cart's meter should be more relevant after the charger is done and has been shut off for at least 12 hours.

Re: I got new batts and 4g wires! yeah!
It should "time out"/shut off around 12 tonight, thats 11 hours on a brand new pack. the meter on the charger shows little or no amps, trickle charge mode I guess. I reckon by the morning it should be ok to ride.
pack voltage currently at 41.3 |
