Re: 2015 Express S4
Much of it depends on the controller.. On a 1268 there are a lot of things that can be changed but you don't want to do so without knowing just what you are doing.. You also have to have a programmer to do it. In your case I guess you will just have to wait and see what you get..

Re: 2015 Express S4
Its a 48v cart. Sepex, as they all are now except RXV. EZGO says speed is 17.5 on 20 inch tires. Dealer can turn it up but not past 19.6 if EZGO will let him.
Can you explain the "high output" option? |

Re: 2015 Express S4
Kernal, I think they may be using a 400 amp 1268 Curtis instead of the stock 275-300 amp.

Re: 2015 Express S4
OK, when comparing this to the regular S4 on EZGO's web page, the HO model has a less powerful motor 2.2KW vs 3.0KW but a higher output controller 400amp vs 250amp. Also a standard 12.44 final drive ratio vs the 14.76 in the standard S4. I would suspect this cart would be faster out of the box and certainly powerful enough to hit the 19.6 legal limit. Easiest way to speed it up legally is taller tires but remember there is always a trade off.
NICE looking cart by the way! |

Re: 2015 Express S4
I did notice the HO was using a half horse less than the S4, and wondered why.
After the warranty period has expired, I may try and step up to the 3 hp motor. Not looking to speed up the cart to 30 mph, just a little bit. If I get 20-22 mph out of the box with the larger wheels and tires, I will be happy. On a different note, I was reading ScottyB's notes on battery break in. Does this really make that much of a difference on the longevity of the batteries? |

Re: 2015 Express S4
Until he can put his hands on it we just won't know.. Some of the bigger work slated EZ-Gos came with the 1268 in a 400 or 500 amp configuration. They can be tweaked big time but like I said, you can fry something if you don't know what you are doing. We put a 1268-500 in a cart last year and it took some time getting everything right.. But now it is a beast. Two speed mode with low topping out at 17 mph but the motor settings are set for better torque and has climbed almost everything we have thrown at it. In high speed it tops out near 26-27. This is with a HO D&D motor, 48 volts, 15:1 rear with 26 inch tires..
Results will vary.. |

Re: 2015 Express S4
Yea, so looking at the specks again, I see EZGO claims the S4HO tops out at 16 vs the 17 for the regular S4. But on paper either one has more in it. Dealer should be able to turn it up as i said before. The regular TXT's(new) are using the same drive train and speed is adjustable on them. There are no "chips" anymore. Speed is set with a handheld programer or a one time use "tool". I believe they changed the terminology also. Freedom is out. I think "coastal" is the new term for the top speed setting.
Also, I see you ordered the 14" wheels and 23" tires. They will likely be low profile so the same height (diameter) as the wheels that are standard on the cart so the top speed will be the same either way. Wheels make no difference in this case. They are just there to attach the tires. You can buy taller tires and this will affect the final drive ratio. I just mention this so you won't be surprised if the cart is not faster because you ordered the 14" wheel package. |

"Truecourse" I believe it the new catch phrase..
Kernal, how is a 23 inch tire low profile ?? I don't get it.. |

Re: 2015 Express S4
You are probably right. I was trying to say EZGO claims that cart has a top speed of 16mph on 20" tires. So If they offer an optional wheel/tire package than it is likely that the total diameter of the optional package will be approximately the same as the standard package so the cart meets the claimed top speed either way. I'm just guessing what the lawyers would make them do.
