Re: 1989 DS Club Car maintenance Suggestions
please remember buggies gone wild does not recommend you change your governor setting from factory, and you are doing it at your own risk!
also keep in mind it has a electric governor on it to keep it from running over a certain rpm, anything over 4k with float and scatter the valves in to the pistons! with out a tach, you are driving a bomb under your seat! if you do these mods, get a tach that can work with single poping engines, not your 20 dollar one form auto zone. also all the tune up kit parts can be picked up at your local auto store....yes the company with the good stuff, or the blue and yellow store can get them. and you do not need two fuel filters, as long as you have one between the tank and the pump, no worries. no real need for one between the pump and the carb. my advise if if the cart has been gently or obversely abused... follow the sticky on top for doing the maintenance. replace the fuel filter, the spark plug and make sure its gaped, not using the factory setting at the plug, replace the air filter, give it a good oil change, ohv engines have filters, the old flat heads have no oil filter. (if the spark plug is right on top of the engine, its a flat head, if its at a 45 degree angle on the front of the engine, and there's a silver in color cover facing the front that says club car, or ohv, its a ohv engine.) and then replace the fluid in the rear end and the transmission. do both the oil change now in the fall, run the snot out of it, then in the spring time, do it again, oil in the engine, and oil in the rear end/ tranny. this will basic flush the fluid and the case. worth the 20 bucks for the 2 quarts of 85-140 syn oil, and the 1.5 qts of engine oil you'll go through. you can just go to wally world and get the super tech oil, it passes the same tests all oil have to go through. all the new name brand stuff, your paying extra for there name, and the fact it may have some extra detergents in it to"clean" your engine. store brand oil works to. nap brand oil is from ashland/marathon...or Valvoline...same company. Re: 1989 DS Club Car maintenance Suggestions
What I did with my 1999 Club car was to:
1. loosen the pinch bolt on the far left side of the arm. 2. adjust the governor until the engine bounces off the rev limiter. (Rotate the shaft CCW in the arm) 3. tighten and test run to make shure of adjustment. 4. Cut the rev limiter wire. This process allows the cart to run at the fastest speed by design and stops the annoying backfire when the rev limiter cuts spark and then turns back on. |

Re: 1989 DS Club Car maintenance Suggestions
The theory is the same, but the engine and transaxle are a completely different set up!
