Re: connecting new solenoid ?
got it! for future reference if anyone needs it. the right side, positive (red lead in pic) side, the large lug is where to connect the fused + to the battery pack. the left side is for the B+ towards the controller

Re: connecting new solenoid ?
In simple terms, a diode "conducts" in one direction only, towards the stripe on the case. If you connected the positive on the side with the black lead, the first time power was applied the diode would act as a dead short, and blow.
The purpose of the diode is to absorb the high voltage spike that the solenoid coil creates when power is removed from it. That polarity of the spike is the reverse of the normal current direction, so the diode "conducts" this spike preventing it from radiating back into the controller circuit. ..a |

Re: connecting new solenoid ?
Sorry to hear that as more and more the quality of China products is very much in question? I had a neighbor that went through 3 before finally getting one that worked for any length of time.

Re: connecting new solenoid ?
Well, if it wasn't for Karl at evdrives, I would have really screwed something up. My solenoid wasn't labeled at all. So he walked me through it the best he could over the phone, and then left me to check the diagrams to confirm. Stupid thing would not budge. The I hooked the tow switch back up and all was good.
