Default 1984 club car

Hello, I recently acquired a 1984 club car with the KF82 flat head engine. This engine has a very noticeable rod knock, otherwise engine is good, 110 compression, uses no oil. Now my question, since the crankshaft is induction hardened steel and the rod is aluminum, would it be feasible to just replace the rod? Also it doesn't run very good without partial choke.

Thanks for any and all help
Larry

It is certainly possible that the crank is ok, but the only way to know for sure is open it up and take some measurements.

Thanks for your thoughts. Makes sense. I'm hoping I can pull the side cover, disconnect rod and pull piston down far enough to remove wrist pin without pulling piston rings out of cylinder, that way I won't have to buy new rings and hone cylinder. I can't believe how expensive parts are for this engine. Sure would like to find a good used one reasonable or a complete FE290 , with carb, exhaust etc.
