Thanks guys! I will take pictures and maybe a video shortly. There is no oil tank. Right now it's running ok, and then after I fly around a bit, it just dies like its getting no fuel. If I pull the choke out it'll start running but not enough rpms to get moving. If I push the choke back in it'll rev up for a second then die. Today it died and I had the choke out trying to get the rpms up enough to move, and for some reason I backed the forward reverse left off a little back towards the center and it started moving. Not fast, but enough to get back to my garage. Completely baffled lol!

Re: 1983 Gas EzGo Marathon newbie
Did you put the piston in with the the square port facing the intake? Might not hurt to look through the exhaust port and make sure all you can see is blank piston skirt, a backwards piston will do just what you described.

I triple checked when I installed it. I'm messing with it now. It'll run with the choke on. Would a clogged muffler cause this?

Ugh!!!! I made sure I put it in the same way the old one came out. Wasn't running when I bought it and the PO had been messing with it. I can see the square hole in the piston. So that's backwards?

Nope. Double checked the old one and it was right. I did it backwards. Kicking myself

If you see this:
Then the piston is backwards. Flip it around and I'll bet you'll have a good runner. Sorry for the huge pic. |

93Yellowclubcar...that's exactly what I had. I flipped it around, and it ran the same. I blew in the carburetor vent tube and it ran like a banshee. I tore the carb apart and cleaned it thoroughly. It is running fast now...just need to tweak the carb. The best I could get it going though is with the choke half to all the way out. Any suggestions on setting the carb?

Re: 1983 Gas EzGo Marathon newbie
You have a BV-18, I'm not familiar with those carbs as I've only messed with the 24s. What does your intake system look like? 2 strokes are finicky about their intakes, you really need a sealed up leak free intake to make it run right, if the intake is open or leaky lots of times it'll make one only run right with the choke out.

I'm definitely going to upload a lot of pics for you today. I'm thinking it's because I took the dirty air filter out. Too much air flow
