ezgo backfiring

Hey,

I just put in a new comet drive clutch since my original clutch quit working. Clutch works great. A week later, now it has started backfiring once the cart comes to a stop, making a pretty loud bang when it does backfire. Also I noticed it seems to coast longer for it to come to a stop when I let off of pedal, don't know if that's related or not.

How do I get it to quit backfiring? I eliminated the oil injection system and premix gas. I put new jug and piston in it last summer, eliminated the governor, and it is a 1984 ezgo marathon.

Normally a backfiring issue is caused by the throttle plate in the carb not closing fully before the pedal micro switch opens.

I've never done an 84 but I would look at the connecting rods and cables to see if they can be lengthened a little to allow the butterfly to close all the way. Just look at whats moving when you press the pedal and go from there. Page J-8 should be close to what you need:

So I just adjust the screw with the spring behind it, and that changes the position of the throttle plate? Thanks for helping me on this

I believe that would do it. When the plate stays open and the pedal cuts the ignition it will backfire due to too much fuel/air coming into the cylinder. So ensure it is closing all the way, pedal should move about 1/2" or so before the plate begins to open.
