EZGO gas cart will not turn over

I recently purchased a 1987 EZGO gas golf cart and have only been able to drive it once. I only drove it around the block because it was backfiring when I let off the gas, so I took it home and put it in the garage. I contacted the previous owner and he stated that I was letting off the gas too quickly in response to why it was backfiring. I didn't think too much about it til I tried to start it again the following weekend..it wouldn't start. When you turn the key nothing happens..no sound, absolutely nothing. Today me and my neighbor tried to jump it with a charger, thinking it was acting like the battery was dead..nope, it's not. Any advice on what I should do next? I was thinking maybe it's the ignition switch, which is a little wiggly..but this is all new to me so not really sure what to do next.

The cart shouldn't start when you turn the key on. You need to turn the key on, then press the gas pedal.

Thank you! I wasn't specific enough, sorry! I did turn the key and press on the gas but nothing happened.

Did you try reverse?
Look for a blown fuse coming off the solenoid.

Yep, tried reverse with no luck. I will check for a fuse tomorrow. Thank you so much. :)
