Ezgo marathon will start in reverse but not in forward

Recently I'm still trying to get it started in forward more often. I tried I hotter firing plug and it seems to have helped some but now when I do run the cart for any length of time it loses power the longer I run the cart. I did take off the exhaust and placed it on a wood fire to clean it out and that made no difference. any more ideas before I tore it down.

I am just "pissing in the wind" here, but I have heard people talk about crank seals sealing up better in one direction than the other. Not sure how hard to change crank seals is, but they are a very important part, and new ones not expensive I would seriously consider throwing a set at it to see if it helps. New seals won't hurt a thing, and leaking seals can trash a motor, so not a bad idea to toss a set in every so often (maybe even 2 or 3 years?)

I have a similar problem with my 1991 marathon. It will always run in reverse, but sometimes will not "catch" when in Forward. When it does run in forward, it runs good. Why would crankshaft seals only affect running in Forward?

Just an update. Tore top end down and needed rings piston and head.

Not hard.....if you read my post with my constant crank seals popping out after my rebuild and cart around helping out big time I got pretty efficient at putting them back in with the engine in the cart....you'll need a cross arm puller and 2 M6 by 60+mm bolts to pop the flywheel and a tool to pop the old seals out. And Loctite 680...yeah definitely the Loctite 680 I assume you you can't skip over this trust me....

The head per my neighbor that is a motorcycle mechanic it was badly worn inside.

OK update again Just finished top end rebuild last night and unfortunately the same sort of issue but now will not always run in reverse and now the motor seems much louder when running. Before the plug used to get wet but now seems good with good spark. and yes the port is to carb. If it was a crank seal problem can someone show pics of what to look for. thanks
