Wont run
I have an 1985 ezgo marathon 2 cycle cart. Last year I took engine out and rebuilt and had a new head built. It has 120psi on compression test, fuel mixture is 1 ounce per gallon. New spark plug and wire and has great spark. Cart will run for about 30 seconds then shut down and wont run again for hours. This is my moms cart that she uses at a lake property to run a round and see friends. Any and all help will be appreciated.
Thank You Bobby |

Re: Wont run
Here is your manual.
It sounds like a fuel delivery problem. I would clean the carburetor by unscrewing all 3 brass orifices for a good cleaning. One under the needle valve, another in the cross drilled bolt that holds the bowl on, and the third one is in the stem where the bowl screws on. After the carburetor, I would remove the fuel pump, and visually check both diaphragms for rips. While the pump is off, spin the engine with your finger over the fuel pump pulse hole. You should feel a good bit of pressure. Worst case scenario is worn crankshaft seals. |

Re: Wont run
I have cleaned the carb ad the crankshaft seals were replaced when I rebuilt the engine. I pulled the line off the fuel pump that goes to the carb and it seemed to have a good fuel delivery. I have the components for the engine to run, fuel air and spark.

Re: Wont run
Can you elaborate on good fuel delivery? If you have fuel air and spark for sure the only things coming to mind are timing, failing electrical component or bad grounding. If it's running good for 30 seconds and going out I'm thinking heat is the culprit pushing me towards bad ground or failing component. If it was me personally I would start by cleaning and/or replacing all the ground connections. I would next test the battery to make sure it's performing when things get going. I would then check my components one by one with their respective test measures. (I'm lying a little bit I would do the HEI ignition mod before testing because I've been looking for a reason to do this but that's me)

Re: Wont run
When I say good fuel delivery the hose coming from the pump to the carb is spurting out pretty good. After it runs for a certain amount of time and quits the spark plug is soaked. Where can I find a manual for this cart. Also where would I find the correct test measures for the electrical components. HEI ignition ?

Re: Wont run
Look in the stickies for 3pg HEI conversion to explain that part.

Re: Wont run
Ok everyone, I believe that I have bad crankshaft seals. No pulse to the fuel pump and its a brand new pump. Wont even start on ether. Can these seals be replaced in chassis or do I have to pull motor and tear down ? Any and all help will be great.
Thank You Bobby |

Re: Wont run
The clutch, and flywheel need to be removed to access both seals. It's not worth the hassle of doing that in the cart. Engine removal is easy.
